Flamingo Illustration in Watercolor

Did you know that the United Arab Emirates has a wonderful array of reserves that protect birds and animals?

The Greater Flamingo is the largest of the flamingo species. They are social birds, which means that they live in large groups, called colonies.

The Al Wathba Wetland Reserve in Abu Dhabi is the only site in the Arabian Gulf where the Greater Flamingo breeds.

In this project, you will produce a watercolor painting of a flamingo in the wetland.

A template printed on tracing paper is provided to you in your kit if you feel the need to trace the drawing. Otherwise, we encourage you to draw your own flamingo by looking at a reference.

Drawing from reference is a great way for you to develop your eye-hand coordination.

Use the black fineliner drawing pen to outline the elements in your painting that you feel should be highlighted or emphasized on.

Materials you will use from this box:

  • 2 no. A4 size plain Watercolor paper
  • A4 size Template with outline of flamingo on Tracing Paper
  • Watercolor paint set
  • Pencil
  • Eraser
  • Sharpener
  • 2 no. Fineliner Drawing Pen

You will need to bring your own:

  • Table cover (for protection)
  • Paper towel
  • Cup of water
